In his lecture, Professor Marsden will delve into the UK’s legislative position on decarbonisation and the Transport Decarbonisation Plans for England. He will analyze the gap between ambitious plans and achievable reality, exploring the government’s initial commitments, recent policy shifts, and the hidden assumptions embedded within the current strategy. Further, the role of science in achieving net zero transport, particularly in light of the high public support for climate action, will be discussed.

Greg Marsden is Professor of Transport Governance at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. He is an expert on climate and energy policy in the transport sector and has researched issues surrounding the design and implementation of new policies for over 20 years covering a range of issues.
